Although we meet together as a community on Sunday mornings, its important to remember that church is not an event that we attend weekly. To have true community and a thriving church we must continue to worship and experience community throughout the week. Feel free to comment on different discussion topics, share what the Lord has done in/for you, and check back often to see what we're focusing on together....

Relationships: Gentleness

Gal. 6:1-2
Dear brothers and sisters, if another Christian is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself. Share each other's troubles and problems, and in this way obey the law of Christ.

2 Timothy 2:24-25
The Lord's servants must not quarrel but must be kind to everyone. They must be able to teach effectively and be patient with difficult people. They should gently teach those who oppose the truth. Perhaps God will change those people's hearts, and they will believe the truth.

1 Pet. 3:15-16a
Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life. And if you are asked about your Christian hope, always be ready to explain it. But you must do this in a gentle and respectful way.

Looking at these passages, why is it important to have a spirit of gentleness as we relate to others? Give an example of how this has worked in your life.

What is gentleness? How would you describe it?

Restrained power.
A bridled stallion.

2 key areas we need to have gentleness in:
a. Speaking truth into the lives of those who are struggling with sin.
b. Speaking truth to those who don't know the Lord yet.

Words used wrongly leave a lasting wound.

Was Jesus gentle?

dude - thanks for doing this. we need to just be consistant with it & i know that at the right time and with the right people it will catch on. it is worth it.

i do think jesus was gentle. there are times when he showed another side - but those times were obviously led by the spirit of god. sometimes i think we use those times when jesus seemed "out of control" as excuses when we lash out on someone or some situation. but we really have to ask ourselves if we are truly being led by the spirit in those moments, or if we are just reacting rashly because we were angry or offended.

mercy triumphs over judgment.
