Although we meet together as a community on Sunday mornings, its important to remember that church is not an event that we attend weekly. To have true community and a thriving church we must continue to worship and experience community throughout the week. Feel free to comment on different discussion topics, share what the Lord has done in/for you, and check back often to see what we're focusing on together....

Being the Light of the World

What does it mean to you to be called "the light of the world"?

Is it something you are or something you do/become?

Matthew 5:13-16

“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

Kim made an interesting point. If you bring a light into a room that is already lit you don't really notice it, but if you bring it in to a dark place it is very noticable.

Jesus was a very noticable light to everyone who saw Him. How can we be like than? Can we? SHOULD we?

Pastor Steve thinks that we Americans are over-churched. We are involved with "church stuff" all week and it keeps us away from what we're really supposed to do...get outside the church walls!

Also, he thinks we are over-informed. We TALK about how to do everything (pray, outreach, read the Bible) but we don't DO it enough!

Tuesday nights at Peace Park on State Street. Let's get involved! (Call Pastor Steve for details)
